It has been lovely getting to know you all this week and I'm looking forward to spending a hard- working and exciting year with you all.
Our first topic for this year is GROOVY GREEKS. During this topic we will be learning about the Ancient Greek civilisation and its influence on the modern world.
Our first English unit will be information texts during which we will find out about the many creatures from Greek mythology and create one of our own. We shall then listen to some of the many exciting and adventurous Greek myths and develop our understanding of these through drama and dance.
For Art we will be researching Greek pottery and then use the coiling technique with clay to design our own pot – prepare to get messy!
In Science we shall be learning about the life cycle of flowering plants and making good use of the outdoor environment to enhance our learning.
In PE we begin the year working with the Derby Community Trust who will be coming in to mentor us during our gymnastics lessons. Mrs Gallimore will also be teaching a unit on Health and Fitness.
Our first RE topic is learning about the importance of holy books to religions.
PE will normally be on Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning. However the Friday afternoon session will be replaced by a Monday morning session until October half term.
Spellings will be given out on Fridays and tested the following Thursday.
Please remember to keep practising your MET targets at home and let us know as soon as you are ready for your end of continent test.
Maths homework, via the Abacus site, will be allocated on Fridays.
Please remember to read to an adult at least three times a week and to always have your reading book and record in school.
Thank you all for an enthusiastic and hard- working start to the school year.
