Year 4 Brain Awareness Week 2008/2009

Year 4 Brain Awareness Week 2008/2009 During the week of the 20th October year four learnt all about their brains and how they work. We had great fun making salt dough brain cells and brain hats.
Did you know that there are 100,000,000,000 (one hundred billion) brain cells?  It would take 3171 years to count them all without pausing to sleep.
They learnt that there are three brains in one and that the reptillian part of the brain needs to be relaxed for learning to take place. The next part known as the limbic brain controls our emotions and that the neo-cortex is where all the learning takes place.

The children learnt that they have a preferred learning style and this could be visual, auditory or kinaesthetic. They learnt that all three will enable deeper learning and understanding to occur in their brains.
